My neighbor in suburban Indianapolis mows his lawn at 7:15 a.m. every Sunday — today I “tested” my new car alarm at 6:58 a.m. for exactly 45 seconds

My name is Brian, I’m 35, and I live in a quiet suburban neighborhood in Indianapolis. It’s the kind of place where people wave when they drive by, kids ride bikes in the cul-de-sac, and weekends are usually peaceful.

Except for one very specific recurring event.

Every Sunday morning at exactly 7:15 a.m., my neighbor two houses down starts mowing his lawn.

Now, I understand that lawns need maintenance. I have a mower too. But Sunday mornings feel like sacred sleep time.

At first I assumed it was a one-time thing.

Maybe he had plans later that day.

But the next Sunday… 7:15 a.m.

And the Sunday after that… 7:15 a.m.

Week after week, the sound of a gas-powered lawn mower roared through the neighborhood like an alarm clock nobody asked for.

The timing was so precise that I eventually started noticing it before it even happened.

At 7:14 the neighborhood would be quiet.

Then at 7:15 sharp the engine would start.

VRRRRRRRRRRR.

For months I tried to ignore it.

I closed the windows.

I used earplugs.

I even tried adjusting my sleep schedule on Saturdays so I’d already be awake.

Nothing worked.

Every Sunday morning I was jolted awake by the exact same lawn maintenance routine.

Now, to be fair, he’s not breaking any laws. Technically the city noise rules allow lawn equipment after 7 a.m.

But there’s something about the consistency that makes it feel personal.

Like the man has a calendar reminder that says:

“Time to wake the neighborhood.”

This morning, however, I woke up early for unrelated reasons.

I checked the clock.

6:56 a.m.

And that’s when I remembered something.

Earlier this week I had installed a new car alarm system in my vehicle.

Purely for security reasons, of course.

But new alarm systems sometimes require testing.

So at 6:58 a.m., I walked outside with my key fob and pressed the panic button.

The car alarm erupted into life.

Lights flashing.

Horn blaring.

A full symphony of electronic distress.

I let it run for exactly 45 seconds.

Just long enough for the sound to echo nicely across the quiet neighborhood.

Then I calmly turned it off and went back inside.

At 7:15 a.m., I waited.

No mower.

No engine noise.

Just quiet.

For the first time in months, Sunday morning stayed peaceful.

I’m not sure if my neighbor overslept or if the brief alarm concert shifted his lawn schedule.

But if the mower starts again next week at 7:15…

I now know my car alarm has a very convenient testing feature.

And apparently it works best shortly before sunrise.
