My husband told me, “Kira asked me to spend the night with her.”

So… my husband dropped a sentence on me that I was NOT prepared to hear. “Kira tried to get me to spend the night with her.” For context: Kira isn’t just a casual friend. She’s my best friend since childhood. Our families have been close for nearly three decades. We grew up together. I would’ve trusted her with my life. So at first I laughed, because it sounded too ridiculous to be real. Then he pulled out his phone and said, “I wish I was making this up.” And there it was: months of messages from her. Not just one random drunk text — consistent flirting, pushing boundaries, escalating. My husband’s replies were basically him trying to stop a car crash in slow motion. He kept telling her it wasn’t happening, that she needed to chill, that she was crossing a line. He admitted he didn’t tell me sooner because he was trying to protect me from the pain and… honestly… because he didn’t want to be the reason I lost my best friend. He hoped she’d snap out of it.

She didn’t. Her final message was: “I want one night with you. Just once. After that, I’ll back off. I promise.” I felt like I got punched in the chest. And then my husband, very calmly, goes, “I know this is going to hurt… but I have an idea about what we should do next.” My husband told me, “Kira asked me to spend the night with her.” I literally thought he was joking. Kira has been my best friend since childhood. Our parents have been close for almost 30 years, and we’ve basically known each other since diapers. There was no universe where I thought she’d do something like that. Then he showed me the messages. She’d been texting him for the last few months. And the worst part? He wasn’t flirting back — he was trying to shut it down, telling her to stop, trying to snap her out of it. He said he didn’t want me to lose my best friend, and that’s why he didn’t tell me right away. He kept hoping she’d come to her senses and quit.

But then she sent the message that changed everything: “I want to spend the night with you. Just once. And then I’ll leave you alone. I promise.” That’s when he finally showed me the entire conversation. I stared at the screen like my brain couldn’t process it. I couldn’t believe what I was reading. He looked at me and said, “I know this hurts, babe. But I have an idea for what we can do about her.”
