My name is Marcus, I’m 27, and I live in Seattle, Washington. I’ve been sharing a two-bedroom apartment with my roommate Jake (29) for about a year now. We met through a mutual friend and, up until recently, things were pretty normal.

We split rent, utilities, groceries sometimes — typical roommate stuff.
But last week I discovered something that honestly made my stomach drop.
For context, I rarely check my credit card statement in detail. I usually just glance at the total, pay it off, and move on. I’ve always been pretty responsible with my finances, so I never worried too much about fraud.
Well… that changed fast.
Last weekend I was going through my bank app because I’m planning a trip this summer and wanted to review my spending. That’s when I noticed several DoorDash charges.
At first I thought maybe I ordered food and forgot. It happens sometimes.
But then I kept scrolling.
There were dozens of charges.
$18.47
$23.90
$31.12
$16.75
All from DoorDash.
And the weird part? I almost never use DoorDash. I usually cook or pick up food myself because delivery fees in Seattle are ridiculous.
So I checked the dates.
The charges went back four months.
At this point I’m confused and a little concerned. My first thought was that my card information got stolen somehow. I logged into my DoorDash account to see if someone hacked it.
No orders.
None.
That’s when it got stranger.
I noticed the deliveries were all happening late at night — like between 11PM and 2AM. Those are hours when I’m usually asleep because I work early mornings.
Then I remembered something.
Jake works late shifts and often comes home around midnight. And I’ve definitely seen a lot of delivery bags in the kitchen lately.
Still, I didn’t want to jump to conclusions. Maybe there was some weird billing error.
So I called my credit card company.
The representative asked me if I recognized the delivery address attached to the transactions.
I asked her to read it.
It was my apartment address.
My stomach dropped.
She asked if anyone else in the household might have access to my card.
And suddenly it clicked.
About five months ago, Jake asked if he could borrow my card once to order food because his bank card wasn’t working. I said sure and handed it to him while I was in the living room.
He ordered something and gave the card back. At least… I thought that was the end of it.
Apparently not.
DoorDash saves payment methods automatically once they’re used.
Which means he could have just kept selecting my card every time he ordered.
For four months.
I added up the charges.
It’s a little over $620.
I confronted him that evening.
I tried to stay calm and just asked if he had used my card for DoorDash recently. At first he acted confused and said he had no idea what I was talking about.
Then I showed him the statement.
He went quiet.
After about ten seconds he said, “Oh… yeah. I meant to tell you about that.”
Apparently he had been “meaning to pay me back” but kept forgetting.
Four months of forgetting.
I asked why he didn’t stop using the card after the first order, and his answer was basically that he assumed I wouldn’t notice because I “don’t check my statements much.”
That part made me furious.
He apologized and said he’d pay me back eventually, but honestly the whole thing feels really shady. It wasn’t one accident — it was dozens of orders.
Now I’m debating what to do next.
Part of me wants to report the charges as fraud and move out as soon as possible. Another part of me wonders if that’s going too far since we live together and things could get messy.
So… Reddit, am I overreacting if I report this and demand the money immediately?
