My Dad Farted While Taking a Picture of My Grandma

The Day Dad Farted During Grandma’s Photo

My dad farted while taking a picture of my grandma.

It happened during a family gathering at my parents’ house last summer. Grandma (who was 82 at the time) was sitting on the couch in her favorite bright green shirt, looking sweet and elegant as always. My dad decided to take a nice photo of her to send to relatives.

He raised his phone, told her to smile, and right as he pressed the shutter button… he let out a loud, unmistakable fart.

The timing was comedic perfection.

Grandma’s face in the photo is legendary: her eyes went wide behind her glasses, her mouth dropped open in pure shock, and her expression screamed “What in the world was that?!”

When we showed her the picture a few minutes later, she stared at it for a long second… then started laughing so hard she had tears in her eyes. She laughed until she was holding her sides, pointing at the photo and saying, “That’s the best picture anyone has ever taken of me!”

That single photo has since become one of the most cherished images in our family album. It captures pure, unfiltered joy and the silly, loving chaos that makes our family what it is.

Every time we look at it, we laugh all over again. Grandma still asks to see “the fart picture” when she visits, and she always giggles like it’s the first time.

It’s a reminder that the best memories aren’t always the perfectly posed ones. Sometimes they’re the messy, unexpected, slightly smelly moments that catch us completely off guard.

My dad still claims it was an accident. We all know it wasn’t.

And Grandma? She says it’s the funniest photo she’s ever been in — and the one that makes her feel most loved.

Because in our family, even a well-timed fart can become a treasured memory.
