Part_1 | | THE NIGHT MY HUSBAND HUMILIATED ME AT HIS CEO CELEBRATION — HE HAD NO IDEA I WAS THE ANONYMOUS MULTIMILLIONAIRE OWNER OF THE ENTIRE COMPANY

My husband had no idea I was the anonymous multimillionaire who owned the entire company he was celebrating that night.

To him, I was just Elle — his “simple,” “tired” wife who had “ruined her body” after giving birth to our twins.

I stood near the ballroom doors with one baby on my shoulder and the stroller beside me, trying my best to stay invisible. The Grand Ballroom of the Regency Hotel was glittering with chandeliers, crystal glasses, and laughter from executives in tailored suits. Ryan was in the center of it all, shaking hands, flashing his perfect smile, accepting congratulations as the newly appointed CEO.

I’d been nauseous all evening, running on two hours of sleep and cold coffee, desperately keeping the twins quiet while Ryan soaked up the spotlight. My emerald green dress — the one I had bought hoping to feel beautiful again — felt tight and uncomfortable. My hair was in a messy bun because I hadn’t had time to do more. Milk stains dotted my shoulder from feeding one of the twins in the car.

When I whispered that one of the twins needed a diaper change, Ryan’s face twisted with disgust.

“What the hell is wrong with you?” he hissed, grabbing my arm and dragging me toward the dim emergency exit. The smell of garbage from the alley leaked in every time the door moved. “I finally made it, and you show up looking like this?”

“I’m sick, Ryan. I just need five minutes. Can you please hold your son?”

“Hold him?” He laughed like I’d said something ridiculous. “I’m the new CEO, Elle. I don’t do diapers, spit-up, or crying babies. That’s your job. And you’re failing at it.”

His eyes raked over my body with pure contempt.

“Look at Violet from Marketing. She had one kid and still looks hot. You smell like sour milk. That dress barely fits. You’re embarrassing me in front of the Owner.”

The Owner.

If only he knew the Owner was standing right in front of him — the woman who signed every check, owned every building, and controlled every promotion in the company he thought he had earned through hard work.

I had inherited the conglomerate from my grandfather at twenty-five. I kept my identity completely hidden, working behind the scenes through proxies and board meetings via video. Ryan had no idea. He thought he had married a quiet, average woman who got lucky with a trust fund.

“Should I just leave?” I asked quietly, my voice barely holding together.

“Yes,” he snapped. “Use the back exit. Don’t let anyone see you near me again. You’re a burden. An ugly one.”

Something inside me clicked off. Not broken — just finished.

I adjusted the blanket over our twins, turned away from the laughter and music, and wheeled them out into the cold night. The valet looked at me with pity as I loaded the stroller into the car. I drove away without looking back.

That night, I sat in the dark nursery watching my babies sleep and made a decision that would change everything.

The woman who had spent years shrinking herself to make Ryan feel big was gone.

The CEO was about to meet the real owner of his company.
